About this item: Woven by hand, this basket is designed by Alida Cruz. She works with natural maguey fibers to create a circular basket. Colorful circlets adorn the piece; these feature cotton threads crocheted by hand over recycled soda pop-tops.

About our Artist: ‘It all started in 2009. There was a big mudslide not far from our town that affected a lot of people in nearby communities, so I started helping as a volunteer. I noticed that the women wove with maguey fibers, so I started a project designing maguey crafts that I could teach them to make to sell. Today, we have many women who are quite skilled at weaving. I’ve become passionate about creating new designs and teaching people who are willing to learn in order to get ahead. I would like our group to grow and be very prosperous.’…
